Hot Water Cylinders

Solar heating systems using a single cylinder need a solar heat exchanger in the bottom part of the tank. As most cylinders don’t have this as standard, it usually means a new hot water tank, which adds considerably to the cost. All cylinders should now be Part L compliant.

Water pumps

Domestic central heating circulation pumps can be used provided the water temperatures are not allowed to rise too much above boiling point. The advantages are easy availability, low cost and reliability. Other pump options are however available should they be required.

Many solar panels come with their own dedicated Pump Station, which incorporate pressure valves and temperature sensors, and are complete stand alone units.

Pump Controllers

The electronic pump controllers monitor the temperature difference between the solar panel and the hot water storage tank, and switch the circulating pump on when the temperature level in the solar panel(s) is sufficient for heat transfer.

We can offer a range of pump controllers manufactured by various companies. A new range is currently being developed by Economy Solar. Various models are available depending on application. They are basically hands free units, some of which display information such as current solar panel and water tank temperatures and usually allow you to fine tune the settings.

Pressure Vessels

Pressure vessels are supplied with the installation depending on size and types of solar panels.

Pipework

Modern pipework is special purpose high temperature piping. Copper pipes which have been soldered are not always suitable with some high performance panels, as the solder could melt in certain situations!
